Study room · timer included

A study room, online.

A virtual study room is an online place to settle in and work alongside other people — without cameras, microphones or any need to talk. See who is there, whose lamp is on and how much time is left in your session.

Start here: the timer works right on this page, without an account. Choose 25 minutes and do a real session before deciding whether the rest is useful to you.

25:00ready when you are

No completed sessions yet. It keeps going as long as this tab stays open.

Why studying alone at home is harder

The problem is rarely your method. It is the moment you have to decide to start, alone in a quiet room, with a whole day that could hold anything. Without an outside cue, every tiny decision — opening your notebook, finding the chapter, choosing where to begin — takes more effort than it should.

Working beside someone will not make you smarter, but it gives starting a clearer shape: a visible beginning, a visible end and someone doing the same thing at the same time. This practice is known as body doubling, and helps explain why libraries stay full even when everything is available at home.

What a Lampmates session looks like

Enter a pixel room, choose a desk and sit down. Your lamp lights up when you start a session, so others see that you are working without knowing what on. The timer counts down 25, 50 or 90 minutes, then rings. Between sessions, see who is taking a break, grab a coffee or look out the window.

There is nothing else to do: no conversation to follow, no meeting to prepare. It is a room, not another task. If you only want the countdown, the work timer is enough and needs no account.

Study room or video call: what changes

A study video call means getting ready, keeping up a conversation and being watched. Many people cannot manage that, or only on certain days. A virtual study room removes those demands: no camera, no microphone, no “can you hear me?” Come for ten minutes or three hours, quietly, without explaining yourself.

It is also useful when friends are unavailable: the demo room is always open, with people working. Visit the room to see what it looks like before deciding.

How to start in three steps

1. Try a session. Open the demo, sit down and spend twenty-five minutes on a real task.

2. Your friends. If that works for you, request a seat : invitations open in waves, and once you have your room you can invite whoever you like.

3. A regular time. Wednesday at 7 pm, Sunday at 6 pm — it does not matter. What keeps a study room going is the time you meet there, not the number of people. If you are unsure about session length, 25, 50 or 90 minutes can help you choose.

The room is open.

Visit the demo without an account: choose a seat, turn on your lamp and see who is there.

Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual study room?

It is an online space where several people settle in to work at the same time, each on their own subject. You can see who is there and who is working without talking or showing your screen. It replaces a library or a kitchen table, not a class.

Do I need an account to try it?

No. Visit the demo room without an account: choose a seat, turn on your lamp and start a timer. An account is only needed to meet your friends in your own room and keep track of your sessions.

How is it different from a video call or a Discord server?

There is one difference that changes everything: no camera or microphone. Nobody watches or hears you, and you can come and go without announcing yourself. You get the company without the social pressure.

How long is a session?

Choose 25, 50 or 90 minutes, just like on the work timer. Twenty-five minutes to start a task you are avoiding, fifty to really get into a subject, ninety when you need sustained attention.

Can I study alone if my friends are unavailable?

Yes: the public demo room is always open, with people working. That is the idea of a study room: you go there so you are not the only one working, rather than to talk.
